Virginia's Week

Mrs. Dalloway is an interesting read to me because of its intense psychological aspect. I think it points out a lot about human nature, as well as various personalities and social groups. It touches on a lot of subjects:love, war, health, social attitudes, and fulfillment in life. I think Virginia was very intuitive of human beings and their interactions. She seemed to know quite a bit about the way the world connected and disconnected. Her genius makes her own life seem all the more tragic.

week 2

This weeks readings have been a lot more enjoyable. I think I got a better understanding of what the material was trying to portray. I think it was somewhat of a tedious story to read as it was basically this big long sob story told by the narrator, but I did like it better than Joyce. I am a fan of Virginia Wolfe so next week will be great. See ya.

First Week Back

Wow, the first week back was more than hectic! Three kids and the stomach virus to begin the school year. Always exciting at my house. So, this is actually the first time I've read Joyce if you can believe it. I have to say I am not instantly thrilled with him. I know he is respected as a great writer and I can see his gift, but as for my taste I think I will not end up considering him one of my favorites. I like British writers but there is always a certain amount of disconnect I feel for them. I think this will be a fun 8 weeks, and I may like him more as we go along. I might try to find some other things of his that are not on the syllabus and read them. Hope everyone is off to a great start!
